Baptism

Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish is committed to welcoming parents and assisting them in their role as the primary educators in the faith life of their child, and offering support as that child grows and matures. In response to that commitment, Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish offers a process of preparation for parents who present their child for baptism.

To begin the process call Deacon Jack Kowalski at the parish office, 517-783-2748. To have your baby baptized into the Roman Catholic Church it is presumed that you, as parents, are currently actively participating in the Catholic Faith as practicing registered members of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish.

In preparation for Baptism, it is required that for the first child, parents participate in a seminar that will prepare them for the baptism of their child. This single session will consist of:
1. Reviewing the requirements for baptism.
2. Theology of baptism.
3. Video of the rite of baptism.
4. Catholic Parenting.
5. Godparent’s role.
6. The rite as performed in our Church.

These sessions will be held in the Saint Catherine room second floor of the parish office at 7:00 p.m. on April 10th, 2012

Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism will take place at 1:15 in the church after the noon Mass on the third Sunday of each month. (Except during Lent)

If the Godparents are not participating, registered members of Queen of the Miraculous Medal Parish, verification must be received from the parish in which they are participating and registered. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Those 18 or older should be registered in their own name (not with parents.) This verification must be received BEFORE baptism can be scheduled.

Marriage

The process for marriage preparation is a well designed and fruitful experience here in the Diocese of Lansing.

The process begins with an initial meeting with the priest. This meeting is followed by working through the following requirements:
1. FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding and Study) is a self diagnostic instrument designed to help couples learn more about themselves and their unique relationship. The initial assessment is completed online and then you will meet with the priest, pastoral associate, or FOCCUS Facilitator Couple to go over the results.
2. Communications skills seminar called "We Care" is a 2 day seminar sponsored by Catholic Charities of Jackson. The seminar teaches couples positive communication and conflict management skills for counteracting and limiting negative patterns so the more positive bond in marriage may continue to develop and mature.
3. Catholic Marriage Preparation is an online course designed to help couples understand our rich Catholic teachings with an emphasis on the Sacrament of Marriage. www.CatholicMarriagePrep.com
4. Course in Natural Family Planning (NFP), a highly effective scientific method of planning your family, both for achieving and postponing pregnancy.

Optional elements in the process may include Engaged Encounter or Remarriage Seminar, depending on individual circumstances. As the wedding day approaches (generally a month before the wedding) the couple meets with pastor to review the preparation process, and plan specific elements of the liturgy and wedding celebration.

Holy Orders

By our very baptism, God calls each of us to a particular vocation, the special way each of us is called to walk with God each day. Some are called to the priesthood, deaconate, or religious life. The sacrament of Holy Orders stems from the Office of Bishop and is shared in the Priesthood and Diaconate. Related to these vocations are the consecrated and religious lives. If you feel that you have been called to one of these walks of life, or would like assistance in discerning your vocation, please call the parish office.
